Pastor’s Devotional Blog

I came across this plaque at a T.J. Maxx. The author is unknown. The plaque reads, “Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass. It is learning to dance in the rain.” Life is daily. Life is reality. Life is filled with choices. So, how do we live or as the plaque read, “dance in the rain?” Please allow me to use the L.I.F.E. acronym to help each of us understand.

Live the ‘whole’ day – it is God’s gift to you.
o Psalm 118:24, “This is the day that the LORD has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
- The steward is careful to embrace the day. “Driven people believe they own everything. Called people think that everything is on loan to them, therefore, they strive to be excellent stewards.” [Ken Blanchard]

Initiate the betterment of others. Someone will come across your path in need of your touch.
o “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7:12, ESV)
- “The golden rule is of no use whatsoever unless you realize that it is your move.” [Frank Cane. CornerStone Monday Morning Inspiration, January 17, 2011]

Face every challenge as an opportunity for success.
o “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” (Psalm 32:8, ESV)
o “And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it’, when you turn to the right and when you turn to the left.” (Isaiah 30:21, ESV)
- “The opposite of courage is conformity.” [David Cottrell]

Excel so the day will finish at a level higher than it began.
o “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6, ESV)
- “The comfort zone is full of people who are passed by others who make personal improvement a priority.” [Ken Carnes, David Cottrell, & Mark Layton, Management Insights]
- “The comfort zone is the greatest enemy of potential.” [David Cottrell, Birdies, Pars & Bogeys: Leadership Lessons from the Links]

May we all learn to live L.I.F.E. in the full – “dancing in the rain!”

Learning to Dance,
Bro. Mike
